Porto Montenegro represents an estate building project that covers an area around the marine and a home port for yachts. It was built with great perspective, having in mind the sophisticated needs of every yacht, their owners, guests and crew, with the additional infrastructure for the biggest yachts among them. The main investor of the project is the canadian businessman, Peter Munk, founder of Barrick Gold corporation. The rest of the investors are: Lord Jacob Rothschild, Nathaniel Rothschild, Bernard Arnault, Sandor Demjan and Anthony Munk.
Porto Montenegro is built on a spot where Austro – Hungarian navy-repairing institute of Tivat used to be. This institute was founded in 1889. in Boka Kotorska bay, which is in the UNESCO’s protection, and in the same time this place represents the deepest natural port on the Mediterranean. The whole project implies the building of 630 bindings for the yachts of all sizes, out of which 130 will be longer than 30 m.
The current capacity of the port is 185 bindings with additional infrastructure: water supply, electricity and wi-fi. The port also has 24 hour security, as well as Yacht Assist team that is concerned with all kinds of services and information to the users of the port, from solving a breakdown to organizing an excursion. Porto Montenegro also has a border crossing status, so all the customs procedures can be wrapped up here. Aside from this service, the clients have an opportunity to supply fuel without any additional taxes included.
Porto Montenegro estate extends on a surface of 24 hectares in the coastal belt, and includes exclusive residential facilities with apartments and a promenade, a hotel, coffee shops and restaurants. Teuta, Zeta and Ozana are three currently finished residential complexes consisted of 75 residential units as well as 2500 square metres of business space. Apart from boutiques, shops for nautical equipment, brokerage agencies, hair and beauty salons, furniture showrooms, there is also a recreational centre that includes: a sports club with a gym, pilates and yoga studio, tennis and squash grounds and a bowling alley. This already rich offer is even more improved thanks to the Porto Montenegro Yachting Club that organizes regattas, rowing classes, motor boat races, classes for making wooden boats and many other social events.
A top educational institution located within Porto Montenegro, the London Knightsbridge International school, has received its first pupils in September 2010. In July 2011. the long-awaited collection of nautical legacy was opened for public, and it is composed of showpieces that are representative of the history of the repairing institute of Tivat. There are plans for making contemporary for the repair and maintenance of yachts, as well as golf courses.
